The final week before closing can feel hectic. Boxes everywhere, paperwork flying around, and a long to-do list that seems to grow by the hour. After helping families sell homes across Los Angeles County and Orange County for nearly four decades, I can tell you this: the smoother your last week is, the smoother your closing will be. Most problems don’t come from big issues. They come from small, avoidable details.

By this point, your home has likely passed inspections, the appraisal is done, and contingencies are removed. You’re almost there. Now the focus shifts from negotiating to preparing the property and paperwork so the buyer can take possession without delays. In cities like Whittier, Fullerton, Buena Park, Cerritos, La Habra, and La Mirada, most escrows close on time when sellers stay organized during this final stretch.

Here’s the simple checklist I give my clients.

Week-Before-Closing Checklist

7 Days Out

  • Schedule movers or truck
  • Confirm your move-out date
  • Transfer or cancel utilities
  • Change your mailing address
  • Gather house keys, remotes, and gate cards

5 Days Out

  • Finish packing non-essentials
  • Remove wall art and patch holes
  • Clean garage, patio, and storage areas
  • Dispose of hazardous items (paint, chemicals)
  • Review closing statement with your agent

2–3 Days Out

  • Deep clean the home
  • Empty fridge and cabinets
  • Remove all personal property
  • Leave manuals, warranties, and spare parts
  • Confirm signing appointment time

Moving Day

  • Final sweep of every room
  • Check closets, cabinets, attic, and garage
  • Leave keys, remotes, and instructions in one place
  • Lock up and notify your agent

One tip many sellers overlook: the home should be delivered “broom clean,” not just empty. Buyers notice the little things. A clean home sets the right tone and prevents last-minute friction during the final walkthrough. It’s a small effort that protects a smooth closing.

Selling a home is a big transition, but it doesn’t have to feel chaotic. With a clear plan and a steady timeline, closing day becomes just another step forward. If you ever feel unsure about what to handle next, I’m always happy to walk you through it. My job is to keep things calm, predictable, and on schedule so you can focus on your next chapter.
